You can now purchase a Japanese train station clock in Japan.
We’ve always loved Japanese trains, but the stations themselves are equally charismatic, with their distinctive sounds and thoughtfully engineered details that give them real personality. For stations run by East Japan Railway (JR East), you’ll notice clocks on the platforms featuring fluorescent yellow-green dials that seem to glow.
JR East operates stations in the eastern and northern parts of Japan, including the Tokyo area, Tohoku, and portions of the Kanto region.

A new release from Takarajimasha, a Tokyo-based publisher known for its mooks—magazine-style books that stay on shelves longer than typical magazines—brings this iconic clock into homes. Each mook combines a special product in a cardboard box with a glossy insert that serves as a product magazine, expanding the experience beyond the item itself.
Takarajimasha’s current offering is the JR East Green Station Clock Book, a collector’s item that has many fans scrambling to get a copy.
The clock is a faithful replica, featuring the JR East logo, the glowing fluorescent dial, the characteristic hands, and a precisely matched frame. Its dimensions are 13.4 cm wide, 10 cm tall, and 4.1 cm deep, making it perfectly suited for desks or bedside tables.
Audibly, the clock is equally appealing. It comes with special alarm tones crafted by Eiraku Electric, a company with 75 years of experience. There are two alarm options—high and low—and you can switch between two authentic train departure bell sounds at the flip of a switch. For rail fans, this is a delightful way to start the day.
If preferred, the clock can be wall-mounted thanks to back-mounted holes for hooks. Positioning it at eye level at the right height can evoke the feeling of standing at a JR East station every time you glance at it.
The JR East Green Station Clock Book is slated for release on January 14, priced at 3,422 yen. Pre-orders are expected to sell out quickly, so consider checking online retailers like Takarajimasha (https://tkj.jp/book/?cd=TD049056&path=&s1=), Rakuten Books (https://books.rakuten.co.jp/rb/18459736/), Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4299049055?tag=sn24-22&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1), and Yodobashi (https://www.yodobashi.com/product/100000009004194176/) to reserve your copy.
