Jamal Murray's Historic 1st All-Star Selection: Career Highlights & 2026 NBA Season Dominance (2026)

Jamal Murray's Stellar Season Crowned with All-Star Selection

DENVER, CO (AP) - Jamal Murray, the Nuggets' star point guard, has been named an All-Star for the first time in his nine-year NBA career. This achievement comes as a testament to Murray's outstanding performance this season, which has seen him lead the Nuggets through a challenging injury-plagued season. Despite losing key players like Nikola Jokić, Aaron Gordon, and Christian Braun to injuries, Murray has kept the team competitive, averaging a career-high 25.8 points, 49.2% shooting, 44.7% 3-point shooting, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.4 assists.

"When I saw that, I was overwhelmed by the thought of his incredible season, including multiple 50-point games and a triple-double in the Finals," Nuggets coach David Adelman said. "He's had a remarkable year, and it's only fitting that he's an All-Star."

Murray, a native of Kitchener, Ontario, was drafted 7th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft from the University of Kentucky. His selection as an All-Star alongside teammate Nikola Jokić marks the first time since 2010 that two Nuggets players have been chosen for the All-Star Game. The 2026 All-Star Game will take place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, next weekend.

Murray's success this season has been a result of his dedication to his physical and mental well-being. He arrived at training camp in better shape and with a sharper mind, allowing him to perform at his peak. Adelman praised Murray's ability to focus on the game without mental distractions, which has contributed to his success.

"Your body is at its best when it's not just the physical part, it's your mind," Adelman said. "Jamal has played the game with such clarity and talent. When he takes what's given to him, success is inevitable."

Murray has already surpassed his previous career high in points, scoring 30 or more 13 times this season. He's also one of the league's top scorers, with 50 or more points in a game this season. Additionally, Murray has 11 games with double-digit assists, a career-high. His outstanding performance earned him the Western Conference Player of the Week award last month, and he's one of the five NBA players averaging 25 points, seven assists, and four rebounds per game.

As Murray continues to shine, he's not only representing the Nuggets but also the entire Western Conference. His All-Star selection is a testament to his hard work and dedication, and it's a moment he's been working towards for a long time.
