Gas prices are dropping in San Luis Obispo County, but are they falling fast enough for drivers? As of November 23, 2025, the average price for a gallon of gas in the county has dipped by 11 cents, landing at $4.76, according to AAA data. But here's where it gets interesting: while California’s average price dropped by six cents to $4.60, national prices held steady at $3.07. This raises the question: why is California still paying so much more at the pump? And this is the part most people miss—SLO County currently ranks as the ninth most expensive place in the state for gas. Mono County takes the top spot with a staggering $5.87 per gallon, while Tehama County offers the state’s lowest average at $4.17. But where can SLO County residents find the best deals? Using GasBuddy data, we’ve pinpointed the top 10 cheapest gas stations in the area. Leading the pack are three stations tied at $4.09 per gallon: Poppy in Pismo Beach, San Paso Truck Stop in Paso Robles, and Pismo Beach Gas on 4th Street. Following closely are Gill’s Liquor and Sinclair in Arroyo Grande, both at $4.11. Costco in San Luis Obispo and 7-Eleven in Atascadero tie at $4.29, while One Stop Food in Paso Robles and Conserv Fuel in San Luis Obispo round out the list at $4.33 and $4.35, respectively. But here’s the controversial part: With California’s gas prices consistently higher than the national average, is it time to reevaluate the state’s fuel taxes and policies? Or is this simply the cost of living in the Golden State? We want to hear from you—do you think California’s gas prices are justified, or is it time for a change?
